SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Southern California police say Rodney King had a number of illegal substances in his system when he died in June, but his death has been ruled an accidental drowning.
Rialto police tell the San Bernardino Sun that the county medical examiner's report shows King had PCP, cocaine and marijuana in his system when he died in a swimming pool.
Alcohol was also present.
TMZ shares that the coroner's report says King was "in a state of drug and alcohol induced delirium" at the time of his death ... and either fell or jumped into the swimming pool."
It goes on to say "the effects of the drugs and alcohol, combined with [King's preexisting heart condition] probably precipitated a cardiac arrhythmia and [King], thus incapacitated, was unable to save himself and drowned."
The full autopsy report is due to be released later Thursday.
A call from King's fiancee brought police officers to King's home in Rialto at 5:30 a.m. on June 17. The officers pulled the 47-year-old King from the bottom of his pool and he was pronounced dead at a hospital.
King was the black motorist severely beaten by Los Angeles police officers in 1991. The officers' acquittal on beating charges triggered the devastating 1992 Los Angeles riot.
