ST. PAUL, Minn. - Two men stand charged in a burglary that targeted a popular vendor on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.
Police were called to the French Meadow Bakery shortly after 4 a.m. on August 25 after the owner of the business discovered that approximately $24,000 dollars in cash was missing from the safe. The money was receipts from two days of sales at the Bakery.
The owner played police a surveillance video that showed two men entering the building, going through employee lockers, and eventually entering the office. Officers immediately recognized 52-year-old Robert Lee Love and 50-year-old Eric Massey from previous contacts.
Massey was soon arrested in Pine County and transported back to Ramsey County. When questioned by investigators he said he won some money at Grand Casino Hinckley and denied every being at the State Fair. When pressed, he admitted to being in the bakery but said he was only following Love.
When police searched Massey's apartment they recovered the shirt he was seen wearing in the surveillance video, and more than $9,300 in cash.
Both Eric Massey and Robert Love have extensive criminal histories that include robbery, manslaughter, drug possession, and other offenses. If convicted of first degree burglary, the suspects face the potential of 20 years in prison.
