FOREST LAKE, Minn. - Forgive the pun, but this is what can happen when you... horse around.

A mare that lives in Forest Lake is enjoying a much calmer day than the one she experienced Wednesday, when she wandered out of the pasture and plunged into a neighbor's pool.

The Forest Lake Times reports that police and fire personnel were called to the 8100 block of North 210th Street after the horse fell into the pool. The pool was not in service, and had just three feet of water in it when the mare walked onto the pool cover and fell in shortly before 1 p.m.

Three other horses escaped the pasture but did not venture into the pool area.

Rescuers positioned the fire department's aerial ladder truck at the side of the pool and used straps from Dan's Towing to create a swing. Once the straps were in place and the horse was sedated by a local veteranarian, the animal was lifted to safety.

The vet said the animal appeared to be OK and unharmed from its near three-hour stay in the pool. The three other horses that also strayed from their pasture were tied to a nearby tree during the ordeal.
