RICHFIELD, Minn. -- Specialized training helped save a family pet trapped in a fire at a Richfield home Sunday afternoon.
The fire started around 3 p.m. at a home near 75th Avenue and Logan Street. Crews arrived to find flames shooting from the home.
The family who owns the home was away on vacation but two small dogs were inside the home. One of the dogs died but the other dog who belonged to the couple's daughter was revived by firefighters.
"I'm just happy to hear her dog is alright," said neighbor Greg Grant. "She was really upset when she got here. I was the first on the scene and we couldn't get in to get them. When they brought him back, that was a miracle."
Richfield Fire Chief Wayne Keywitch says the training is known as Basic Animal Rescue Training or BART. He says it's been used before, but probably not captured by television cameras.
The home is total loss and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
A neighboring home also suffered damage.
