FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. - A St. Paul Police officer is recovering after someone kicked him in the head while at the Minnesota State Fair. State Fair officials say the officer was off-duty at the time.
It happened shortly after midnight Sunday morning near the Midway at Liggett St and Carnes Avenue.
The altercation was caught on video and then posted to YouTube. The video appears to show a man assisting police by handcuffing a suspect while holding him down. Shortly after, another man kicks the off-duty officer in the head.
State Fair Police would not say what the off-duty officer was doing at the fair, why he was assisting police, or what lead up to the altercation. They do, however confirm he is a St. Paul officer.
A spokesperson with the St. Paul Police Department would not comment Monday.
State fair officials say the officer is okay and actually told investigators he thought he was head-butted. A witness who saw the whole thing unfold told police he was kicked in the head.
There has been internet chatter that the altercation was somehow in retaliation for the controversial arrest made last week by St. Paul Police which was also posted to YouTube. But state fair spokesperson, Brienna Schuette told KARE 11, "There is no indication that is the case right now".
