BYRON, Minn. - A 17-year-old high school senior from southeastern Minnesota is dead after crashing her minivan into a school bus near the town of Byron Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities say the bus was stopped to drop off a student on Olmstead County Road 5 when Deianerah Logan of Pine Island ran into the back of it around 3:40 p.m.  Emergency responders had to pull the minivan out from under the bus and extricate Logan from the wreckage. She was airlifted to St. Mary's in Rochester where the teen was pronounced dead.

Byron School District Superintendent Jeff Elstad told KTTC-TV that this accident serves as a reminder that bus safety is key.

"Just pay attention and make sure you're watching the road and what's going on. Look for those buses that are stopped, especially before and after school, they're going to be traveling the roads out here. They're going to be pulling over and picking up and dropping off kids."
