TORONTO - Forget the question about the chicken crossing the road.

A video that's gone viral poses a much more pointed one: Why would a mother duck cross a busy freeway... with her babies in tow?

A photographer was in a helicopter flying above a Toronto freeway in May after a series of fatal accidents, gathering footage when he noticed a handful of tiny dots running around on the shoulder.

He moved the camera to those dots, and realized it was a mother duck and a handful of little ducklings. Much to his horror, they ran out into the first lane and began dodging in ad out of the speeding traffic.

At one point, cars were so close to the duck posse that the turbulence blew some of the chicks off their feet.

Amazingly, they sprinted and swerved across every lane of traffic, while the photographer held his breath. The happy ending made him want to share the video... and it recently exploded on the internet.
