ONAMIA, Minn. -- The Mille Lacs County Sheriff says a 14-year-old girl from Onamia was killed by a car as she walked to her school's football game Thursday night.

According to authorities, the accident happened around 7:15 in Onamia Township on 350th Street between U.S. Highway 169 and 125th Avenue.

The Mille Lacs County Sheriff says the girl attended Onamia High School and was headed to the school's football game when a vehicle hit her from behind.

The driver of the vehicle, a 37-year-old man from Onamia, stopped and notified authorities of the crash.

The victim was taken to Mille Lacs Hospital where she died.  Her identity is not being released at this time.

Authorities are currently investigating the accident.  They say alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
