GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - You've probably heard of the The Amazing Race, but how about The Amazing Walk!?
This September 29, the one-day event right here in Minneapolis with adventure challenges that will involve the entire family, from toddlers to adults.
Made possible by the Säjai Foundation which battles childhood obesity through its Wise Kids programs, the second annual Amazing Walk! is intended to raise awareness for the Foundation's mission and work during September, which is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month.
The 5K loop will have nine, all-abilities challenge stations along the way. Each participant will receive a free tee shirt, healthy snacks and a backpack to collect goodies along the way. They'll also be able to register to win a family pack of shoes for mom, dad and kids, donated by Schuler Shoes, valued up to $700.
The fun will start with music and games, an interactive vendor exposition, and then the actual Amazing Walk! begins at 9 a.m. at the North Mississippi Regional Park.
The stations will include:
• Climbing wall: Kids and adults use secure climbing holds to get to the top, then rappel down.
• Healthy eating: Kids will make their own treat, and learn why each ingredient is healthy.
• Parkouring: A non-competitive activity that teaches kids how to safely maneuver around and over obstacles.
• Geocaching: An outdoor treasure hunting game where participants hide and seek containers containing small trinkets. They sign and date a card showing they were there.
