ROCKFORD TOWNSHIP, Minn. - A garbage truck collided with a train in Wright County Tuesday morning.
The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. on 5th Street Southwest near the intersection of Highway 55 and Wright Country Road 33 in Rockford Township.
No injuries were reported on board the train.
A spokesman for Canadian Pacific Railroad says the train, carrying a load of mixed freight, was heading east toward Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Engineers tried to stop the train before the crash but were unsuccessful. Railroad spokesman Ed Greenberg says it can take a fully loaded train a mile or more to come to a complete stop.
Investigators note that there are signs posted before and at the crossing.
The Wright County Sheriff's Office released the name of the driver. He is 41-year-old Sean Michael Conway of St. Cloud.
Conway was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. Authorities say his injuries do not appear life threatening.
Canadian Pacific switched out the train's crew, which is standard following a crash.
