SIREN, Wis. - The discovery of a number of hazardous waste dump sites has conservation officials in northwestern Wisconsin asking for help to find those responsible.
Sometime around September 4, various paints, coatings and solvent wastes were discovered dumped in and around Siren in Burnett County and Frederic in Polk County.
The illegal dumping occurred on private and public lands.
This follows the previous discovery of illegal dumps in remote areas around Webster and Danbury in Burnett County.
Officials say the illegal dumps of hazardous materials pose a health risk to people, wildlife and groundwater. The waste should have been properly recycled or processed for disposal.
Anyone with information on the illegal dump sites or the person or persons responsible is asked to call the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Tip Line at 1-800-TIP-WDNR (1-800-847-9367).
All calls will remain confidential.
