Wis. man charged in drunken driving that kills wife

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. - A 67-year-old man faces nine felonies for allegedly driving drunk and causing a crash that killed his wife and another woman and injured six others in Chippewa County.

According a criminal complaint, Gerald Larson, of Eau Claire, said he had three beers before the Sept. 8 crash in the town of Eagle Point that killed Karen Larson and Lori Barger of Altoona.

Larson faces two counts of homicide by an intoxicated use of a vehicle and seven counts of injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

According to the complaint, Larson failed to stop at a stop sign and the other car was unable to avoid him. Three people from each vehicle were injured, including the Larsons' 43-year-old daughter.

The Chippewa Herald reports his preliminary hearing is Oct. 9.
