MINNEAPOLIS - The 39-year-old Bloomington man charged with throwing a metal vise through the window of a vehicle that injured an Iraq war veteran has pleaded guilty to first-degree assault, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.
Gerret Parks, on numerous occasions in December, January and February, went driving in the Bloomington area and threw bottles and other heavy objects out his car window so they would hit on-coming cars, authorities said.
In court, Parks admitted he was drinking heavily at the time of the incidents and remembered very little of what happened. However, he said he did not doubt the reports and pled guilty.
In an incident on Normandale Boulevard in Bloomington, National Guard Sgt. First Class Jonathan Stacke suffered severe injuries to his face, jaw and teeth. One of the felonies against Parks is First Degree Assault.
Parks will be sentenced at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. He is expected to receive 75 months in prison and pay restitution not only to Stacke, but to the other people whose cars he damaged, even though those charges were dropped, officials said.
