HUDSON, Wis. - Witnesses helped St. Croix County sheriff's deputies find the driver accused of striking and killing an elderly woman near Hudson.
Eighty-four-year-old Lucille Hansen of Roberts was hit on County Trunk Highway TT in the Town of Warren Wednesday afternoon and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say witnesses gave deputies a description of the fleeing car which included the fact that the windsheidl was broken and the direction the car was headed.
A 36-year-old man driving a 1997 Ford Taurus was arrested a short time later in Hudson. The driver is currently being held in the St. Croix County Jail pending formal charges.
The Wisconsin State Patrol, Roberts Police, Hammond Police and Roberts Fire & Rescue assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office.
