MINNEAPOLIS - For those who were unfortunate enough to be around the Bryn Mawr neighborhood of Minneapolis Thursday afternoon, words were not enough to describe the terror they felt after a deadly shooting at a business left four people and the suspected shooter dead.
"It's insane. It's crazy," said neighbor Heather Buckingham. "I know the guy, I know all the people."
Buckingham lives feet from the business - Accent Signage - where the shooting happened. She tells KARE 11 she used to work at the sign company as a receptionist and knows the victims and the shooter. She did not witness the shooting but is in contact with current employees who did.
"The one that was doing the shooting was quiet; kept to himself," she recalled. "Kind of odd."
Although police did not confirm, she said the shooter was an employee at the business and was laid off Thursday.
Seventeen-year-old Marques Jones was in the middle of taking his senior pictures near the business when he heard four to five gun shots. He and his photographer immediately hit the deck, he said.
"[It was] scary. Scary it seemed so close, you're life flashes," he said.
Not too far away, neighbor Barb Gasterland said an employee of Accent Signage came to her home looking for help.
"He was visibly fearful," she said, "He came running up the side of the road and asked for the phone because he was running from the shooter."
Still visibly shaken Thursday evening, Gasterland told KARE 11 how the man described the details of the shooting while hiding in her house for about 30 minutes.
"He had watched his boss get shot and his best friend and two other people," she said. "He could tell one person was dead at least."
It is a terrifying account that she and her neighbors cannot believe happened only blocks away.
"It's tragic, it's very tragic," she said.
More details of Thursday's shooting are expected to be released Friday.
