MINNEAPOLIS - Minneapolis police say a 4-year-old boy hit by a car Sunday night has died from his injuries.

Officers were called to a vehicle versus pedestrian accident at the intersection of 26th Street East and 11th Avenue South about 7 p.m. When police arrived they found a woman performing CPR on a small child.

One of the officers assisted with medical efforts on the child while the other gathered information from witnesses. They learned that a 58-year-old female motorist was driving in the area when the boy darted into the middle of the street.

Police say the driver was unable to avoid hitting the child. She stayed on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The four-year-old  was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center in critical condition. Late Monday the child succombed to his injuries.

The name of the child will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office after an autopsy is completed.
