MINNEAPOLIS - A Richfield man has died after his canoe capsized at Fort Snelling State Park Friday morning.
Airport Police and the Hennepin County Water Rescue Team were called to Snelling Lake around 8:40 a.m. on a report of people in the water.
Hennepin County Sheriff's spokesperson Lisa Kiava said one of the men fishing in the canoe was wearing a life vest and was able to stay above water, but the other was pulled under and did not resurface.
Rescue crews were eventually able to locate that paddler and get him to shore.
Both men were transported to United Hospital in St. Paul. The man who swam to shore is a Minneapolis resident and he was treated and released. The other man, who was rescued, was in critical condition and died at the hospital Friday evening.
