WILLMAR, Minn. - A man charged in the sexual assault of a Minnesota teenager is also linked to a 2011 rape and murder in Texas.
Esequiel Gomez, Jr. appeared in Kandiyohi County Court Monday on charges that he attacked and raped the teen early July 29 as she walked by the footbridge on High Avenue.
She identified Gomez as her attacked from a photo lineup one day later.
DNA recovered from a sexual assault exam was entered into a national database, and it matched a sample taken from the scene of a 2011 rape and murder in Tulia, Texas. Authorities in Swisher Count South have issued a warrant for Gomez, and set bail for him at $1,000,000.
Here in Minnesota Judge Michael Thompson also set bail for Gomez at $1,000,000, citing risk of flight and danger to public safety. Prosecutors say Gomez has made admissions about his involvement in the crimes in both Minnesota and Texas.
