MINNEAPOLIS - The wait is nearly over for drivers in Minneapolis. City officials say the Plymouth Avenue Bridge will reopen Monday, October 15. Crews shut down the bridge connecting north and northeast Minneapolis two years ago because of safety concerns.

Although the bridge will open Monday, there will be lane restrictions. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and stay that way until construction wraps up in late November. All lanes of traffic on the bridge will be open through the winter. Lane closures will again be in place when the 2013 construction begins in next April. Crews still have to make some final repairs to the bridge.

The Plymouth Avenue Bridge closed in October 2010 after inspectors found significant deterioration of concrete and cables inside the bridge's box girders. Construction workers started repair work this past summer.

The bridge opened in 1982. More than 14,000 vehicles used the bridge daily until it closed.
