MINNETONKA, Minn. - They're a costume accessory that can complete you're Halloween look.
"Everyone wants the contacts," says Halloween Express store manager Durton Koble. "They're unique and they add that special touch."
At the Halloween Expresss in Minnetonka, you won't find costume contact lenses in the story, only online. They're a product in high demand, but eye doctors and even the FDA is warning consumers that they can pose a problem for your peepers.
"Anything that affects the health of the eye or you start to get a breakdown on the surface of the eye, that's when you get the opportunity for infection," says Dr. Brian Snyder with the Highland Family Eye Center in St. Paul.
The Halloween contact lenses are typically one-size-fits-all, but Dr. Snyder says that doesn't mean they'll fit every eye. In fact, if they don't fit, that's when damage to the eye can occur.
"Bring them in and we'll check them out for you," he says.
More information on costume contacts can be found on the FDA website.
