CHASKA, Minn. - A 16-year-old Chaska boy is in critical condition Monday after being shot in the head by an arrow over the weekend.
Chaska police were called to the 100 block of Stratford Circle just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday and found the boy had been struck. Also on the scene was the victim's 16-year-old friend who had been handling the bow when the arrow was shot.
The 16-year-old was rushed to a hospital in Chaska, then transferred to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he remains.
Attorney Marsh Hallberg released a statement Monday afternoon from the family of the 16-year-old who shot the arrow. It reads:
The young man and his family are grief stricken at the tragic accident that occurred on Saturday evening around 6 pm. Two teenage best friends were at a home in Chaska . The one young man was accidentally shot in the head with a blunt shaft arrow.
We believe this was truly a tragic accident. No alcohol or drugs were involved.
The family asks for support and prayers for the young man who was shot as well as his entire family.
Chaska Police are currently examining the events that led to the teen being shot, but won't yet say if criminal charges will be filed in the incident.
