ST. PAUL, Minn. - A 50-year-old Minneapolis woman is charged with attempted murder after St. Paul Police say she sliced her boyfriend's throat.
Officers were called to an apartment building on the 600 block of Aurora Avenue early on October 15 after a 911 call from a 39-year-old man who said he'd been stabbed by his girlfriend Dawn Peel.
While the man was rushed to the hospital with a nearly 6 inch gash in his throat police went to his apartment where Peel answered the door stark naked. Police asked how much she'd been drinking, and she replied "Not enough." Peel then claimed her boyfriend had been attacked by someone else, and then proceeded to tell officers that the victim regularly beat her up.
Officers found no evidence to back up her claim. They did find a bloody knife in a kitchen drawer.
When questioned at the hospital Peel's boyfriend told investigators that she had been drinking all day and acting mentally unstable. He told her she needed to go to the hospital and check herself in.
The man claims he lay down on the living room floor so he wouldn't disturb Peel and went to sleep. He awoke to find Peel kneeling over him, and she allegedly said "this is the last time you'll see my eyes" before slicing his throat with a knife.
He told investigators the defendant was sawing the knife back and forth across his neck like she was "slaughtering a goat or a cow." It eventually took surgery and 23 staples to stop the bleeding.
If found guilty Dawn peel faces 20 years in prison on the most serious charge.
