MINNEAPOLIS -- American Refugee Committee's I AM A STAR campaign will host the Run to Unite on Saturday, October 20.
This is an event like no other, because the organizers don't know how long the run/walk will be. The course distance will be determined by the length of the "World's Longest Paper Chain for Somalia." This paper chain has been built one link at a time and each link represents $1 for Somalia.
On race day, volunteers will stretch out the paper chain to see how far the participants will run or walk for Somalia. It might be 1 mile, 3 miles...or more!
Anyone is welcome to participate in the event, taking place at Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis. Registration begins at 9 a.m., event festivities get under way at 10 a.m. and the walk/run will start at 11 a.m.
World champion Somali runner Abdi Bile, will participate in the Run and will also run with children in the "kids' mile".
