ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Prosecutors have filed charges of second degree intentional murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Rockville, Minnesota last weekend.
Marcus Michael Barshaw, age 28, is currently hospitalized after being shot by police in the wake of the alleged murder, which took place early the morning of October 21.
The criminal complaint filed against Barshaw Thursday details the case put together by Stearns County investigators. It states that law enforcement was called to a home on the 300 block of Broadway Street East in the City of Rockville around 4 a.m. on reports of a man with a gun.
By the time deputies arrived they found victim Jeffrey Schutz dead on the scene. He had been shot six times. Two witnesses told investigators they saw Barshaw shoot the 30-year-old victim multiple times before fleeing.
Deputies tracked Barshaw to a nearby apartment building, where they say he was holed up with a semi-automatic assault rifle. Barshaw was shot after coming out of the building and failing to comply with law enforcement orders.
The victim's wife later told investigators that she drove to Walker, Minnesota and picked up the suspect that night after he contacted her on Facebook. She says Jeffrey Schutz did not want Barshaw at his home, the two argued, and Schutz was fatally shot.
