NORTHFIELD, Minn. - A manhunt is underway in Northfield as authorities look for an armed robber who fired shots at police early Monday.

Officers were first called to America's Best Value Inn at 1420 Riverview Drive in Northfield just after 2:45 a.m. on reports that an adult male had entered the motel and robbed an employee at gunpoint.

Responding officers located the getaway vehicle not far from the motel but the suspect was able to escape, firing shots at officers as he fled on foot. Police did arrest a female passenger who identified the armed robber.

Northfield Police Chief Charles Walerius says a handful of SWAT teams and dozens of officers and deputies are conducting a high level search for the suspect, identified by his accomplice as 26-year-old Eric Forcier of Northfield. The State Patrol helicopter has been up over the area, which is described as wooded and brushy terrain that runs up to the Cannon River.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Eric Forcier is asked to call police. He is considered armed and extremely dangerous.
