INDEPENDENCE, Minn. - Law enforcement officials are investigating a fatal collision on Highway 12, just west of County Road 90. The crash involved a cement truck and a minivan on Tuesday afternoon in Independence.
Police say the minivan was westbound on Hwy. 12 when it crossed the center line. A loaded cement truck traveling eastbound was unable to avoid the minivan. As a result of the crash an intense fire started and engulfed the minivan and cab of the cement truck.
The driver of the minivan died at the scene.
The driver of the cement truck was transported to North Memorial Medical Center with what police describe as non-life threatening injuries.
The driver's identity will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.
