ST. PAUL, Minn. - A political Twitter throw-down over the marriage amendment has apparently cost a legislative assistant his job.

The social media brawl broke out Monday night between GOP legislative assistant Bob Koss and outgoing State Rep. John Kriesel (R-Cottage Grove), apparently sparked by Kriesel's appearance in an campaign ad that supports gay marriage.

In an increasingly angry series of Tweets Koss called Kriesel, a decorated military veteran who lost both legs to an IED explosion,  "disgusting," a "self serving SOB," and a "piece of s$#@."

For his part, Kriesel used the escalating Twitter exchange to rile Koss up with a series of taunts on the legislative assistant's low-rung standing on the political ladder and other matters.

Steve Sviggum, Communications Director for the Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus, told KARE 11 Political Reporter John Croman that "Bob Koss is no longer an employee of the Minnesota Senate." Sviggum said data practices rules do not allow him to say whether Koss was terminated as a result of the blog exchange.

City Pages reports that Kriesel's acrimonious exchange with Koss came just days after Minnesota for Marriage's Andy Parrish called him a "pretend Republican," adding that "John K is all about John K."

This isn't Kriesel's first high-profile Twitter feud. He got into it with former Viking wide receiver Bernard Berrian in October of 2011, mocking Berrian's claim that he was "always open" and wasn't getting the ball enough. Kriesel is an avowed Vikings fan and bucked the party line by being a huge supporter of a new stadium for the team.
