Ticketmaster out at Target Center

MINNEAPOLIS - Ticketmaster is out.

That's the word Monday from entertainment giant AEG, which is replacing the iconic and oft-criticized ticket selling system with its own model.

AXS Ticketing has been successfully launched in nine major markets so far, and AEG, a leading entertainment and sports presenter and operator of the Minneapolis venue, is now launching it to handle events at Target Center.

"After successfully launching AXS Ticketing in venues and arenas throughout the country and across the pond, we're looking to continue to build the momentum with the rollout at Target Center," said Bryan Perez, AEG's president of digital, ticketing and media in a written release. "Through innovations that benefit both ticket buyers and venues, we're looking to revolutionize the ticketing process to enhance the overall event experience."

For Target Center, the change means all shows going on pre-sale or on-sale after November 6 will utilize the AXS Ticketing platform, replacing Ticketmaster as the seller and distributor of tickets for the arena.

AEG says unlike Ticketmaster, AXS will not charge a delivery fee to customers who print their Target Center event tickets at home.

Steve Mattson, VP and General Manager of Target Center said, "I am thrilled to have Target Center on the same ticketing platform as venues such as The O2 arena in London and Sprint Center in Kansas City. This will give the local fans access to the impressive and innovative new features that event-goers are utilizing around the world."

The first shows available for purchase on the new ticketing platform are: World Wrestling Entertainment's Holiday Tour (on sale November 10) and Classical MPR presents The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra (on sale November 23).

Ticket buyers can visit targetcenter.com or AXS.com to purchase tickets to events at Target Center.

Features of AXS Ticketing will include a virtual waiting room that gives fans greater transparency into the buying process by displaying real time ticket pricing and availability information. Fans will also be able to enter their payment details before tickets actually go on sale, shortening transaction their times.

AEG is also touting what it calls a social ticketing breakthrough, AXS Invite™ -- which will allow fans to reserve adjacent tickets for friends so they can all sit together. Once the seats are reserved, through a one-step invitation process, the initial purchaser can then invite his or her friends to buy the nearby seats via Facebook or email, eliminating the need for one purchaser to fund the entire transaction.
