GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - A significant storm is heading into the midwest Friday and into the weekend. In the Twin Cities metro we'll stay on the warm side of the system but they won't be so lucky (or unlucky) in northwest Minnesota and North Dakota, where several inches of snow could fall.

The latest models put 2-6" throughout the northwest corner of Minnesota, while 15+" are expected in northern and northwestern North Dakota. A Winter Weather Advisory is out for northwest MN with a Winter Storm Warning for Kittson County, MN and throughout North Dakota.

We may not get the snow here, outside of a few flurries Sunday, but we'll all see the cold air that will flow in behind the storm system Sunday. Expect patchy drizzle developing Friday night into Saturday, with a decent shot of some rainfall tomorrow night.

Showers and thunderstorms should develop in Iowa and far southern Minnesota late Saturday and that moisture will clip the metro, giving us the potential for anywhere from a tenth of an inch to as much as a half inch of much needed rain before the cold front drops temps to below freezing by Sunday night.
