The Twin Cities Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign raised $108,958.76 in its first day, setting a new record.
Saturday was the organization's "Kick Off-Rock the Red Kettle" event and the goal was to raise $108,000 in ten hours. More than 1200 volunteers rang bells from 8:00 am to 6:00pm.
More than $65,000 was collected in the red kettles around town. Online red kettle donations reached more than $33,000. The final number included a matching gift from Cub Foods of $10,000.
