BENTON CO., Minn. - The Rice Fire Department rescued a man and two boys whose boat had submerged in Little Rock Lake while hunting Monday afternoon, the Benton County Sheriff's Office said.
The sheriff's office received a call about 3 p.m. from Tamara Caruso, 42, of Minneapolis, who said she was unable to reach her husband, Frank Caruso, who was hunting ducks in a boat on Little Rock Lake.
Frank Caruso and the boys were expected back at the cabin at 1:30 p.m.
Benton County deputies, the Minnesota State Patrol, the Rice Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance and Rice police responded to the scene and began to search the area where the group had been hunting.
About 4 p.m., the Rice Fire Department found Frank Caruso and the two boys on the east shore of Little Rock Lake.
Caruso told deputies that he picked up the boys and their gear and began heading back to the cabin when the front of the boat went underwater and began filling with water.
Caruso and the boys were wearing life jackets and were able to swim to shore and light a small fire. They were found on the east side of the lake, Chief Deputy Troy Heck said.
"I think they probably did the right thing by starting a fire and waiting for rescue," Heck said.
All three were cold but unharmed.
