ANOKA, Minn. - An Apple Valley man faces child endangerment charges after leading police on a 2-minute car chase with his 3-year-old son in the backseat, according to the Minneapolis Police Department.

The incident occurred on Nov. 9 when police tried to stop Salvador Mejia-Camacho, 25, because of a problem concerning his vehicle registration stickers. Instead of stopping, Mejia-Camacho weaved through traffic nearly causing several accidents, police said.

Mejia-Camacho left the vehicle and fled on foot through the yards in the 2700 block of Pillsbury Avenue South. As the he ran, he threw something which was later found to be jar filled with marijuana, police said.

A short time later he was arrested and found to have a gross misdemeanor warrant out of Dakota County and the tabs on the car did not belong to it, police said.

In the backseat of the car was the defendant's 3 year-old son who had been present throughout the motor vehicle chase.

Mejia-Camacho faces charges of fleeing a police officer in a motor and endangerment of a child, police said.

Mejia-Camacho is currently in custody for his Hennepin County charges along with a hold for Dakota County and a hold for a federal agency.
