BLAINE, Minn. - Fire investigators are on the scene of a blaze that caused significant damage at a popular bar-restaurant in Blaine overnight Friday.

A burglar alarm was the first indication that something was wrong at Ole Piper Inn Bar and Grill on Central Avenue and 93rd Lane Northeast just before 3:30 am.

When first responders arrived they reported heavy smoke coming from the restaurant, and then five minutes later, dispatchers were told Old Piper was the scene of a working fire.

A handful of engines, aerial ladders and pumper trucks from the Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Moundsview (BSM) fire department were actively working the scene, as were crews from Coon Rapids and Fridley.

As of 8 a.m. Friday morning there was no word on the cause or the extent of the damage.
