MINNEAPOLIS - After an exhaustive floor to floor search that took more than two hours Minneapolis Police say no shots were fired inside a building at the Target Campus in downtown Minneapolis Friday.

SWAT teams and dozens of officers swarmed the Retek building at 50 South 10th Street South after receiving a report of shots fired at 11:10 a.m. About the same time hundreds of employees inside the building were told over the intercom to barricade themselves in their offices.

They remained in lockdown for more than two hours until police finished a search of the building and gave an all-clear just before 1:30 p.m.

Minneapolis Police Acting Chief Janee Harteau told reporters at a press conference that there is absolutely no evidence that anyone fired a gun inside the 11-story Retek building. In fact, investigators believe something inside the ducts on the 10th floor made a noise that was heard by five employees in a conference room. One thought it sounded like a gun shot and called security.

Armed officers and K-9 teams went floor to floor and office to office looking for a gunman, a search Harteau described as "extensive."

Searchers found no victims and no suspects.

A gurney brought into the lobby of the building was not for anyone who had suffered an injury but for a pregnant woman who was showing signs of labor.

Despite all the chaos Harteau told reporters she thought the response to the ordeal went well. When asked whether the person who called in the report would be in trouble, Harteau said the last thing police want is to discourage someone from calling police. She tells citizens to always err on the side of caution.

Friday afternoon Target Corp. released a written statement that read:

"Around 11 a.m. this morning, there were reports of loud noises in the building located at 50 South Tenth Street where approximately 1,300 Target team members and contractors work. The entire Target team is incredibly grateful that after a full sweep by law enforcement there is no evidence of any issue or injury. As always, our primary focus is on the safety and well-being of our team members. We are thankful for the quick response of the local officers and to our team for their cooperation."
