RICHFIELD, Minn. - Minnesota-based Best Buy is experiencing a case of holiday deja vu, and it's not a good thing.
The electronics retailer's website crashed Monday morning, reportedly under heavy traffic by rewards members looking to cash in on pre-Black Thursday deals.
Those attempting to log on to Best Buy's website see a message that reads "Our website is incredibly busy. Please be patient while we shovel you a path. "
Best Buy's Reward Zone Twitter account posted "We're aware customers are experiencing issues accessing the Premier Silver deals. We're working to correct this - please check back soon."
Best Buy spokesperson Lisa Hawks released a statement Monday afternoon calling it "a good news, bad news situation." Hawks insists that BestBuy.com had no capacity issues as it experienced what she called "unprecedented" traffic. The problem, according to Best Buy, was a back end tax calculation system which caused a delay for customers.
To help resolve the delay, Hawks says Best Buy manually began managing traffic into the site. She insists the delays lasted less than an hour.
All customers who placed an order and were inconvenienced by this delay will receive expedited shipping.
Those who experienced delays or problems quickly filled the company's Facebook page with angry posts.
To be sure, it's not Best Buy's first significant website problem. The company also experienced website problems and woes delivering products to consumers who had already purchased them last holiday season.
