GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - More people than ever will be skipping the stores and doing their holiday shopping online this season.

But with more deals being offered earlier, many of them online, there will also be more scams and more risk for identity theft than ever.

That's why, before you start shopping there are a few things you should do to prepare.

Chris Rence of e-commerce provider Digital River joined us on KARE 11 Sunrise with more on what you should look out for.

Before you start holiday shopping:

  • Choose one card to use for your online holiday shopping and keep your credit limit low.
  • Make sure you protect your devices with passwords, and that the passwords are different from device to device.
  • Update the security on all the devices you plan to use for shopping computer, tablet, mobile phone - including malware and antivirus software.
  • Avoid shopping via public WiFi networks and public terminals.
