ROSEVILLE, Minn. - If you're using Highway 169 to get to grandma's house Wednesday morning or early afternoon, MnDOT wants you to be ready for the worst.

Work on the project to rebuild the Highway 169/I-494 interchange in Bloomington, Edina and Eden Prairie will cause headaches for motorists using the stretch to get out of town.

The good news is that new ramps, a roundabout, and the frontage road north of I-494 are scheduled to open by 11:55 p.m. Wednesday.

The bad news is that to do all this, both directions of 169 will have a lane closed from Valley View Road to Anderson Lakes Parkway between 9 a.m. and noon Wednesday as crews finish striping and rerouting traffic to its permanent configuration.

West 78th Street, between Hwy 169 and Washington Avenue, along with the ramp from West 78th Street to westbound Interstate 494, are also scheduled to open at 11:55 a.m. Also opening at this time will be the roundabout located on West 78th Street and the ramp from southbound Hwy 169 to West 78th Street.

In addition W. 78th Street north of I-494 will open beneath Highway 169, and motorists will be able to use the frontage road connecting Prairie Center Drive and West Bush Lake Road.

The Highway 169/I-494 interchange reconstruction project includes turning the current expressway into a freeway by rebuilding the interchange with six ramps instead of eight. The performance-based design removes traffic signals, reduces congestion and improves safety.
