ANOKA, Minn. - An Anoka man is hospitalized in critical condition and a suspect accused of shooting him seven times is in custody after an altercation Saturday.
Squads were dispatched to the 700 block of Southview Drive around 3:15 p.m. on reports of shots fired. They found the 27-year-old victim, who had suffered multiple gunshots to his upper torso and face.
First responders rushed the man, identified by the Anoka County Sheriff's Office as Darrel Donte Reed, to Mercy Hospital. Reed was subsequently transferred to Hennepin County Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.
The suspect immediately fled the scene but not before witnesses were able to see the weapon and the getaway vehicle. Police used the description and license plate to track the suspect down in Minneapolis a bit more than 2 hours after the shooting and take him into custody.
The shooter is described as a 24-year-old man from East Bethel. Charges have not been filed in the case.
