Bill drafted to limit cell phone tracking

MINNEAPOLIS -- The ACLU tells KARE 11 they have drafted a bill to require a warrant before law enforcement can track a person's cell phone.

This comes after KARE 11 learned that the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and Bureau of Criminal Apprehension have both acquired devices that let them track and extract data from people's cell phones without a warrant.

State lawmakers are also looking into the devices after seeing our investigation.
