And we're back! Another Olsen family vacation is in the history books- and the photo album. Some things that made me think, "oh I should blog about that." First, I deserve an award for still being able to get a family of 6 and a week's worth of food and camping supplies in one mini-van. It's like a giant suitcase-grocery bag-cooler brain teaser. The alternative was to take two cars and choke on a budget-busting gas bill. No thanks. I'm happy to report that outside of one bag of what became Lay's Potato Crumbs, we made it to the lake in one piece- and in one car. It's good training for the upcoming trip on the airplane where anything extra is now an extra charge. If you read this blog you know Patrick was very ready for this trip. Parker was a bit more last minute. When I checked his suitcase he had only his stuffed alligator and sting ray, swim trunks, one version of his Finding Nemo underwear and a couple shirts. I guess the theme was "things that can go in water." Funny since his usual worse case scenario is a bath. If you read this blog you also know that little Parker has to fight for the spotlight sometimes. But he showed 'em up at the cabin. Twice. Parker won our round of the Longville Turtle Races. Then the next day he landed the biggest bass in the annual Thunder Lake Lodge Kids' Fishing Contest. I know I'm not supposed to play favorites, but it's nice to see the small fry get the big prize from time to time. Finally, "Don't put that in your mouth!" Now I have great reasoning to go along with that speech I still have to give Parker from time to time. "Those coins have all kinds of germs on them," doesn't seem to keep money away from his mug. But now I can say, "remember the day on the dock when Daddy had to use a quarter to cut up the worms for fishing? Do you want to eat worms?" That should do the trick.
