For days now, some of the producers have been complaining about a foul odor emanating from their desks in the newsroom. My desk happens to be near them but I hadn't really noticed anything too out of the ordinary until today.
Last night, a Tupperware of food was found underneath one producer's desk so we thought the mystery was solved.
However, this morning, the smell lingered.
I was finally asked to come and smell which I normally wouldn't do but I obliged because it was becoming an issue.
The odor smelled of something like vomit so we decided that the smell must be coming from a dead animal or something. We narrowed down the region of the smell and began to investigate.
We moved file cabinets, brought other people over to see if they could smell it and we came up empty again.
Finally, we brought over our maintenance man, Elias, to see if he could figure it out. What he finally came up with was something we never would have thought of.
The culprit was a plant!
We all thought Elias was insane but when we went in for a smell test, it was in fact coming from the plant! How does a plant smell????
Regardless of the answer to that question, the plant has been removed from the newsroom and we can finally all feel at ease that we found the source of the foul odor in the newsroom.
