I just realized that this is technically the third month of Tom Petters' federal fraud and money laundering trial. The jury was selected at the end of October. And now, the seven women and five men team will decide the defendant's fate.
It's been a long haul. In a day of few resources and short attention spans, we so rarely as journalists get to cover stories anymore from start to finish. The opportunity has been tremendous and the insight into the way our legal system works has been invaluable.
I am both a journalist and a second year law student at William Mitchell College of Law. I call them my "two lives" and they have complemented each other well over the last couple of years. I've been very grateful for the new perspective each has given to the other.
About 30 hours of deliberations so far...
