My task today was chasing Vikings. They were holding their annual golf tourney for the Vikings Children's Fund at Rush Creek in Maple Grove.
I got in the cart with KARE star shooter Augie, and we zoomed all over the golf acreage.
Our first stop was on the practice green where Kevin Williams and Pat Williams were hard to miss. These guys are clearly good buddies, but have next to zero golf skills. I don't even think they were golfing later. I saw no clubs. Just putters and a few golf balls.
There is something awesome about watching a large fearsome lineman crouched over trying to putt.
From there we zipped down the course, almost getting pelted by Greg Coleman's drive.
We found a cloud of cigar smoke on the 5th hole. Eddie McDaniel and John Randle were playing in the same fivesome!
The defensive stars from Vikings past were laughing it up, clearly enjoying themselves.
Randle who is being inducted into the Hall of Fame this summer, congratulated me for setting the world record for the longest tennis match ever.
I realized, I should probably congratulate him as well, seeing as how his deal is probably a bit more impressive than mine.
Their group ended up about 88 yards from the pin after a monster drive. It being a scramble format, they all then hit from the same spot. None of them made it onto the green!
They almost in unison, all turned to me, pleading for me to take a shot too. I humbly obliged and stuck a wedge about ten feet away. They told me they were going to use it. Obviously, the rules weren't being strictly adhered to.
We saw plenty of more Vikes, Darrell Bevell, Brad Childress, Chris Kluwe, Sage Rosenfels, Chad Greenway and others.
I'll be honest, it kind of got me in the mood for some pigskin.
But I had to settle for pig. See, after our inteviews, we sampled the spread laid out by Lynch's Bar-B-Que. Pulled pork, brisket, sausage, ribs. Hey, these football guys gotta eat.
Imagine my surprise as we were wrapping up our shoot, when I glanced over and saw Brett Favre on the driving range! OK, that part I'm just kidding about.
