Really rude phone call

I learned a long time ago in this business, you can not please everyone.

Even the most beloved people on television are disliked by some.

It's why I don't get too bent out of shape when someone expresses their displeasure for me or my work.

I welcome constructive criticism.  But, I am able to let negative comments or perhaps even the over the top saccharin comments, roll off me without any impact.

Every once in a while though, there comes an e mail or voicemail that is so extreme, that I can't help but be affected.

It happened this past Saturday night when I said during my baseball highlights, when describing a home run, that the batter "got a hold of that pitch."

Somehow, pitch was mistaken by a viewer as "rhymes with pitch, starts with B."

That caused quite a stir in that person's household, or at least in her personal bubble of misunderstanding, and she lashed out with an irate voicemail.

The tirade came at me hard, and none of it is even appropriate to transcribe in this blog.  It was laced with profanity and about 45 seconds worth of vehement anger.

I do feel bad that my word was mistaken, and that it caused that much discord, but I must admit, I am sincerely amused by the irony of someone offended by a perceived curse word, only to dole out close to a dozen cuss words in retort.

Moral to the story, make my P's more evident I guess.
