I'll admit, it was a bizarre week to give up caffeine.  And pop.  And gratuitous sugar.  It was the same week my baby girl was born!

A few weeks ago, my wife and I welcomed our new baby girl into our lives.  A bundle of joy, sure, but also a lot of abbreviated slumber.

And so what do I do in the midst of all these sleep deprived nights?  I gave up coffee!

The motivation was simple.  For the past several years I've suffered from substantial headaches.  They happen far too often, and have effected my sleep far more than a crying baby.

They almost always last three days, and then on the third day between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., they release, and I'll be back to normal.  It's like clockwork.  It's a timeframe anomaly that I haven't heard anyone else suffer from.

I get these things a couple times a month.  So, in essence I have headaches six days a month.

I've been to the doctor, physical therapists, chiropractors, and taken meds for them.  But nothing has changed them.  So now, this experimental step, quitting caffeine, soda, and unnecessary sugar.

I usually drank a big coffee in the morning, and a couple high caffeine content sodas in the afternoon.  Sprinkled throughout it all, a lot of candy and sweets.

So this is a test to see if quitting this stuff makes  a difference in my headache frequency.

And of course to make matters even harder, I quit it all cold turkey.  Now, a couple weeks later.  I must admit, I feel considerably better.

How long it will last, that depends on whether or not the headaches recur.  In the meantime, I miss my Red Bull.  But, despite my resolution, let's make it clear, Gummi Bears are not included in the embargo.
