Talk about a shameless plug! It's not often I find my photos in publications. To my surprise, professionally, July turned out to be a great month for me (minus the whole turning 30 years old!).
Last fall I submitted a picture I took at Lake Ann Park in Chanhassen. It was the only day I ended up shooting fall colors. I was running errands around town and noticed the leaves had a warm looking presence, the colors just "popped". I took about 30 photos that afternoon, far fewer than I usually would when I go out shooting.
Weeks later, I loaded the photos on my computer, looked them over. I had a few that turned out pretty good, in particular, some great shots of the sun rays peeking through the trees. I thought they were good photos but nothing I hadn't seen before.

I entered these photos in the Chanhassen Photo Contest and submitted several photos to the
Freshwater Society Minnesota Weatherguide Calendar. A few weeks ago I received a nice e-mail from the Freshwater Society congratulating me on choosing two of my photos for their 2011 calendar. Needless to say I was pretty excited! I really love the photos in that calendar and to think that one of mine is now being featured in this years calendar, CRAZY!
Back to the Chanhassen Photo Contest, I was picked runner-up last year. I had a nice mention on the City of Chanhassen's website and nothing further. Then last week, tada! I didn't know they would feature my photo on the fall publication of the Chanhassen Connection! Not a bad way to start your day, your photo on the cover. Hey, it's not Newsweek but it's a start :)
Who knew one photo would go so far? I wonder if I have another special photo from this year?
