GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- Fighting a head cold and I'm rapidly losing the battle. Pity to catch this while we are still enjoying such an amazing stretch of great weather. Maybe I should just refuse to shake hands. That's how one local germ phobic gossip writer tries to stay healthy. Too Howard Hughes or is it Howie Mandell for me? Oh well, accept the consequences of being hands on. Power on.
Sometimes images are so powerful they stay with me long after the story airs. A case in point, the amazing photography of Alec Soth. There is a major exhibition of the Minnesota artist's work at the Walker Art Center.
Soth is featured in this weeks KARE about the Arts.
I met the Woodbury real estate broker who was fired on the Apprentice Thursday night. Wade Hanson was actually booted back in June, but forbidden to reveal the fact until now. Clearly he has a right to be bummed out, but he surely isn't bitter.
"I've been an entrepreneur my entire life. I've never been fired by anybody before. If I'm gonna be fired, Donald Trump's the guy to it," he said good naturedly.
Hanson also says he learned plenty of lessons during his two week experience. "Donald Trump sets an example for thinking out of the box, and in these economic times that's a good thing", he said.
Other musings. Have you checked out the newly remodeled Park Square Theatre in Saint Paul yet? It's fabulous. One of the many improvements include new seats. You can now go online to select the location and width, yes, width, up to 22" for your seat. Director Of External Relations, Michael-Jon Pease says there is a big push to attract younger audiences to the theatre which is celebrating its 35th anniversary. I'll have a full report coming up on KARE about the Arts Friday, Oct. 29.
Also upcoming: One of my favorite writers, the hilarious humorist David Sedaris is appearing at the historic State Theatre on Thursday night, October 21, 2010.
I remember laughing so hard while reading one of his books, my dad interrupted me to ask what I was reading. It was Barell Fever by the way.
Sedaris takes no prisoners, including himself when aiming his laser beam of wit and insight. Brutally funny man.
Gotta run and swill some Dayquil. Have a great weekend everyone.
Stay well.
