MINNEAPOLIS - The mother of a missing U of M students says in a heartfelt Facebook post that the body pulled from the Mississippi River Thursday belongs to her son.
Melissa Melnick says a watch and ankle bracelet that were on that body match jewelry favored by her son, 22-year-old Chris Stanley. A police report says Stanley was with friends near St. Anthony Falls when one friend told police he went over the falls, and he thought Stanley went with him. The friend was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center.
Hennepin County Sheriff's deputies recovered a man's body from the Mississippi River near the Lake St. Bridge while searching the river around 4:00 p.m. Thursday, according to a news release.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office will identify the body and release the official cause of death.
Authorities have been searching the river since Stanley went missing in the area last week.
Services for Stanley will be on Friday, May 12 at the Central Lutheran Church. His family will receive his diploma on Sunday, the day he would have graduated with a degree in neurobiology.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family.
