Byron Buxton taken to hospital after outfield collision

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. – Byron Buxton, the Twins top minor league prospect, is in the hospital following a violent collision in the outfield.

The 20-year old was making his debut with the Twins AA team in New Britain, Connecticut when the incident occurred. Video from the game's broadcast show Buxton attempting to dive for a fly ball, but then colliding with the incoming right fielder.

The game was suspended for several minutes while Buxton was transported to a local hospital.

KARE-11 has not been able to confirm the extent of his injuries, but some early reports state Buxton blacked out following the collision.

Jeff Passan, a Major League Baseball columnist for Yahoo! tweeted, "Buxton's kneck/shoulder area hit RF Mike Kvasnicka's leg. At the hospital, he remains groggy, confused with concussion-type symptoms."

Buxton is considered one of the league's top-rated prospects.
