Chemical spill at U of M forces evacuations

MINNEAPOLIS - A chemical spill at the University of Minnesota's Masonic Cancer Research Building has prompted an evacuation of the area.

Authorities say the Minneapolis Fire Department and U of M police responded to a call of a hazardous substance that had spilled inside the building, at 425 River Parkway E.

The building was evacuated as a precaution. The Minneapolis Fire Department tweeted around 1:40 p.m. that the situation was under control. The chemical was cleaned up and air monitoring showed no hazardous substances or gases present.

Police say there were no reports of injury.
